Pete Sampras – The Legend of Tennis

Multiple winner of Grand Slam tournaments, for several years was the first racket of the world. The future champion was born in Washington on August 12, 1971 in a Greek family. His father, Soterios Sampras, worked as an engineer, his mother did not work, she was a housewife. Parents called son Petros. Pete’s father was a big fan of tennis and spent his free time on the court with pleasure. When the boy was 7 years old, his father began to teach him how to play tennis. The intense game sometimes ended in a swoon, because Pete has a rare disease associated with a lack of iron in the blood. However, the disease did not prevent him from making a brilliant, dizzying career as one of the most successful and famous tennis players of the 90s of the twentieth century. The style contained elements of an aggressive game with lightning fast outputs to the grid. At the age of 14, Sampras, on the advice of a trainer, changed the two-handed left punch to the famous one-handed one in the future. At major children’s tournaments, Sampras was rarely the winner, as the coach Continue reading

German tennis player Steffi Graf won all the Grand Slam tournaments in 1988 and, in addition, became the champion of the XXIV Olympics in Seoul the same year, winning singles. In addition to these great sporting achievements, she also has other tennis records.

She was born in 1969 in the German city of Mannheim, and the first who was able to discern her outstanding tennis abilities was Steffi Graf’s father. He became her first coach, having managed to instill in her a selfless love for this difficult sport and fostered a fighting spirit in her – an inalienable quality of a tennis player. Pete Sampras about Andre Agassi

He was the most difficult opponent for me in that great summer of 1995 and again showed himself to be such at the very end of his and my career – in the climax of the evening quarter-finals of the 2001 Open Championship. This match was the crown of our rivalry, and for me – our greatest, most stubborn battle.

My rivalry with Andre is described in great detail and comprehensively. At heart, I knew that it was he who prompted me to demonstrate my best qualities. Andre survived the ups and downs – this explains why we did not meet more often, especially in the finals of major tournaments. But of all my rivals, he was the standard of the highest standard. No one except him could play at that pace throughout the match, Continue reading
